I downloaded compat-wireless-2008-03-25.tar.bz2.

I did tar jxvf on the archive.

cd compat-wireless-$(date -I)
make

then

sudo make install

then

sudo make unload

then I restarted my computer.

The network manager GUI doesn't let me configure anything.

iwconfig states there is no wlan interface!

I connect my USB Wifi chip and now that also doesn't work! The whole
Wifi system is gone!

How did you install the driver?
