I suspect this also accounts for the fact that some potential updates

    Accessories aren't an option from my Applications, and Aptitude is 
one of the things that disappeared from my menus when I tried to edit 
them, but I tried Applications > Debian > Applications > Shells > Bash 
and got the response 'Please install the package "python-launchpadlib"', 
so did (and wish I could make sense of the fact that "New Packages" far 
exceed "Installed Packages" plus "Not Installed Packages".

Having logged in and authorized apport-collect, I got the message "This 
site is running pre-release code.  Please report all bugs.  Disable edge 
direct."  Unfortunately, I don't really understand how I should respond 
to that, but returned to finish the authentication process.  That 
resulted in the message "Downloading bug...

    I've had a look at this, and am under the impression that it'll take 
me some time to get to grips with it, so hope that what I've managed so 
far will be some help meanwhile.
