I get this on a Dell Dimension D500 laptop with an RC disk.

If I press enter at the right point in the boot sequence, somewhere
after the BIOS screen, but before the Ubuntu flash screen, I get a menu.
If I select try or install, it goes to the splash screen and eventually
the screen just goes blank and the laptop becomes completely
unresponsive. Selecting the "check CD" option says that the CD has no
errors.

Lucid Lynx is completely unusable AFAICS.
