Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10
-----
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 server on my "Asrock 330 pro" (64bit) with encrypted lvm.
It seemed to work fine until I encountered some weird bugs.
First, I ran a few programs like irssi and some python scripts in
screen, but suddenly these where complaining about that the files that
they where working with could not be found. For instance, my python
script polls from my mysql database and sends output to a fifo pipe.
After some 10-20mins this python script claimed that the fifo pipe
file/directory was non-existent, so I checked the fifo pipe and it was
there. Next up irssi had problems locating its scripts and sometimes
even the irssi home directory which is weird since I could access them
without problems manually.
Now I tried to access these files and dirs from within a screen session
and notices its problematic, for instance, the irssi config file (
~/.irssi/config ) can be read by typing: "cat ~/.irssi/config", however,
opening it with nano will result in a "new file". Opening it with "vi"
seemed to work fine tho.
Now, this problem only seem to occur from within a screen, files can at some times not be accessed.
So, I figured I could use a similar program like "dtach" to run programs in a detached mode.
I setup dtach to run these programs and it seemed to work, but now
problems seems to occur maybe 4-6h later than with screen. Now when
trying to access the dtach session I just keep getting "dtach: pap:
Connection refused". I can see all the processes are there but they
seemed to have stopped and I can't access any dtach session at all.
A few times I get ext4 errors in dmesg, they doesn't seem to pop up at
the exact time the files/dirs cannot be found but they do sound quite
related. Here is a snippet from dmesg:

Its sounds reasonable that something is up with the inodes, anyone have a clue if this is a result of a bad disk or a bug in ext4?
This is first time I use ext4 and all my scripts and programs worked perfectly fine on my old ext3 debian system.
Thank you!
