Although my machine has a different wifi card (same as comment #23), I
have the same problem. I can easily reproduce it because on my new HP
8540p it never ever worked. I have had mixed results with adding
swcrypto=1 to the driver: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

However, *if* it works, it works like a charm, and continues to work
during that session.

I'm using a 10.04 live CD, 32 bits.

I also tried 10.10 alpha 3. I'll create a different bug report for that
because it failed with a different error.

I also tried the new Microcode software from Intel:
http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/iwlwifi/downloads/iwlwifi-6000-ucode-9.221.4.1.tgz.
Didn't help either...
