** Description changed:

Hi friends! Thanks for reading my first Ubuntu bug report.

When I tried to get my Traveler SU 1071 USB microscope working with my fully patched Ubuntu 9.10 (32bit), I stumbled upon the problem, that it is only half-way recognized as a USB device (with a known ID) when plugged in. There is no /dev/video* file created. I assume that's why neither the camera nor the built-in microphone of the microscope is usable by these webcam applications like Skype, guvcview, cheese etc. The microscope shows up like this when typing "ls-usb":
  ..
- "Bus 004 Device 003: ID 1b3b:2936 iPassion Technology Inc. PC Camera/Webcam controller"
+ "Bus 004 Device 009: ID 1b3b:2936 iPassion Technology Inc. PC Camera/Webcam controller"
  ..
- It has an iP2935 camera chip.
+ It has an iP2936 camera chip.
See attached logs for more info.

What I had expected: Device would be recognized and the camera would be usable in at least in one linux application.
What happened instead: Device not found when starting guvcview, Skype, cheese etc.

- The camera chip (see ) seems not/incorrectly to be supported?! I have
- read on ubuntuforums.org that the user "chrisp_duck" seems to have
- accidently got it working for a blink of an eye, when he accidently
- switched the USB ports for different webcams. Quote: "I had a bit of
- confusion yesterday, when I waws trying to figure out which of my cams
- was in which USB port and I managed to accidentally find out that this
- iPassion camera works OK, by swapping it with another camera in a
- different port. It must have been using the other camera's resource and
- driver. I live in hope that the uvcvideo driver is updated soon..."

  - Find the above quote and discussion on the Ubuntu forums: http://wwww.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8361616
  - Vendor and chip information (PDF): http://www.ipassion.com.tw/pdf/iP2936_DSH_1.pdf
- - Pleace see also very similar Ubuntu launchpad bug #489149 that is IMHO related to this because of the same vendor ID (1b3b) and similar product ID (2937 instead of 2936): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/489149

Is there a way to help with getting this (and maybe the other bug at the
  same time) patched/fixed?

Thank you very much in advance for making Ubuntu the best OS in the
world. I apreciate the hard work and time that you're all putting in
this. Please let me know, if I can attach any further logs to this
report or whether I shall try something out for you.
