I don't think this is a duplicate of #488720.  That appears to be an Nvidia driver issue.
This bug occurs with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M.
I also have this bug on a Dell Vostro 1000 AMD 64 X2 also Broadcom B4311 wireless card.  Using Lucid Alpha 3.

Resume after suspend from the power off menu always works.  Resume after lid closure always fails.
Suspend by closing the laptop lid suspends but on resume the screen is blank; ctrl Alt Fn gives no response.

After powering off following the first occurrence of this problem, then starting from powered down the system failed to boot.  The error message was:
"mountall: fsck / [314] terminated with status 4"
Running fsck from a gentoo install found these errors:
inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found
Block bitmap differences
Free blocks count wrong (x2)
Inode bitmap differences
Free inodes count wrong (x2)

The above file system corruption only occurred once.  Now it just locks
up.
