I see that the patch has been applied to:

Does this sort of change ever get backported to earlier kernels
officially?  Does it get backported by Debian/Ubuntu/Canonical/etc?  For
instance, will it become available on Ubuntu Karmic (based on 2.6.31)?

If not, is it easy for me to add the patch myself?  If this is not the correct place for these questions then please respond here:
