The same problem is still here with Ubuntu 10.04. Nautilus hangs
completely, and I'm not able to unmount the cifs shares after the cifs
server is shutted down. Additionally, Ubuntu hangs during
reboot/shutdown.

dmesg displays lots of these:
[324360.230346]  CIFS VFS: Unexpected lookup error -112
[324370.230750]  CIFS VFS: Unexpected lookup error -112
