I was experimenting a bit with that as I had seen similar messages on
one of my machines when connecting the external monitor through a kvm
switch. In my case there seems to be some electrical problems to detect
the bus line pulled to 0. Maybe other people affected could try to use
one of the kernels at: http://people.canonical.com/~smb/i915-edid-test/
and report back here (best with the dmesg output from the new kernel)?
