BTW, answering Kevin DuBois, I've tried with the mainline kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-lucid/ - it
doesn't solve the problem.

Now I'll try booting with i8042.debug=1 kernel argument and let you know
what it logs.
