Here's the output of "lspci | grep VGA":

  01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc R600 [Radeon HD 2900 Series]
  04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600 GT] (rev a1)

The video driver in use at the time was nouveau.  After switching to the
proprietary nvidia driver, the crashes seem to have stopped.
