I tried sudo hal-disable-polling --device /dev/sr0, restarting udev, and
even the firmware update. Unfortunately udevadm monitor still shows
repeats of the following (about once a second):

UDEV [1276134766.174897] change /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host1/target1:0:0/1:0:0:0 (scsi)
UDEV [1276134766.271019] change /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host1/target1:0:0/1:0:0:0/block/sr0 (block)

Most noticeably annoying with the Lucid CD in the drive, as the software
sources pop-up keeps appearing.
