I have queried the upstream linux-acpi developers mailing list about the
choice to make native hwmon drivers non-functional without adding the
"acpi_enforce_resources=lax" cmdline parameter. You can follow the
message thread at:

http://marc.info/?t=126747745400002&r=1&w=2

It appears to be the strong belief that the functionality in 2.6.31 and
later kernels are the correct solution, and even a whitelist of hardware
is unwise. Thus, the default for Ubuntu will remain consistent with
upstream. If you want native hwmon driver support, you will need to
manually override the protection by using the aforementioned cmdline
parameter.

However, the boot error message does appear to be at too high of a log
level. I have compiled a kernel that lowers the warning message. I need
someone to test the kernel to ensure that:

1. The boot message no longer appears over the splash screen
2. The message still appears in dmesg

Please find the new kernel at
