[Bug 532310] [NEW] Sigma Tel C Major Audio Intel AC97 ST97 Sound card not found

Had to add acpi=off to boot after install
apm=on
Does not find the sound card
The driver in windows XP says the card is a Sigma Tel C Major Audio Card
lsci yields:
Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)
Nothing seems to rouse the sound to life.
I saw a bugzilla patch for alsa 15 but I am currently at version 22.
Is there an IRQ conflict or is there just no driver written for this sound card.
So far impressed with Ubuntu except for the obvious fact that I can't hear any audio.
Everything happily plays as if it was but nothing comes out.
