Binary package hint: pulseaudio
Symptom: When multiple applications try to play sound spontaneously,
audio becomes extremely garbled and distorted.
For example, if I'm listening to music in Rhythmbox and then some other
application attempts to play sound (Flash-video in firefox, Pidgin
notifies about a message, whatever) the audio becomes incredibly
distorted while this occurs, and after the secondary application has
stopped it returns to normal.
This happens when I have set output (Profile in Sound preferences) to
virtually anything except Analog Stereo. When set to Analog Stereo,
everything works as expected. If I set it to output 5.1 Analog Surround
the distortion occurs.
This is extremely annoying since my preferred output is analog 5.1
surround.
This is also completely reproducible.
My soundcard is a Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS.
Output from aplay -l ; grep Codec /proc/asound/card0/codec#0
