I would also like to point to my thread in the Ubuntu forum, where user
Mocha seems to have found a possible solution for this bug in post 14 on
page 2 without the need of updating your kernel:

"Try the following options in your alsa-base.conf file. These seem to
fix the issue for me.

options snd-hda-intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N
position_fix=1 enable=yes

I think the real key here is the position_fix=1 option"
