You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Yesterday I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 on my Acer Aspire One netbook and
now it won't boot. The upgrade finished successfully but after I
restarted, the computer sat at a black screen with white Ubuntu logo in
the middle for a long time and then it printed the message:
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.16
/dev/sda1: clean, 204843/985760 files, 1467037/1969962
I tried restarting a couple more times, and every time it did the same
thing except the last time -- the number 1467037 changed to 1467038.
Next I tried booting using the "recovery mode" option from the GRUB boot
menu. I saw a lot of text scroll by and then it eventually froze with
the message:
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.16
/dev/sda1 was not cleanly unmounted, check forced
/dev/sda1: 204843/985760 files (3.9% non-contiguous), 1467038/1969962 blocks
mountall: fsck / [437] terminated with status 1
I did this twice and got the same message each time. It never went any
further so I never got to a login screen or command prompt. Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Just let me know what information you need
and I will be happy to provide it!
