Public bug reported:

On all official karmic kernel series, the widely spread (Intel 945GCLF Mainboard) networking chipset RTL8101E/RTL8102E will not be recognized automatically. Neither do 8139too/cp nor r8169 recognize it.
The only solution so far is to download and compile Realtek“s r8102 driver [1] and compile it.

I plea for integration of this driver in this and upcoming linux-images in karmic and lucid. Accordning to the driver“s header files, the driver is GPLed/2+.
Alternative: integration of fixes in r8169.
