Hi Jeremy,

don't know if it may help you, but I am owner of an R3000 Compaq Presario and I'm experiencing this hanging-on-boot since version 9.04 (I'm using Karmic by now: new version, old story).
Since I use my laptop for work, it's difficult (and dangerous) for me to make a test install of version 10.04, would it be useful if I try with a live-CD boot?
If not, I may create a new partition (after a good dump) just to verify the issue, let me know if I can help you some way.
