THanks for checking.
But I've moved on to Karmic 2.6.31 kernels now.
This type of problem is mostly of concern to those who have to compile
winmodem drivers.
I've encountered it in both Debian and Ubuntu kernels over the years.
It should be simple enough for linux-headers maintainers to run a
compile and check where the drivers actually install to.  For example,
the Ubuntu sl-modem-source package could be used to test.
