Jeremy, thanks for following up. Unfortunately, my profile has
drastically changed. I was never able to improve the situation with
9.04. I have since upgraded to 9.10, added 4G RAM, and replaced the
onboard Intel video with nvidia. My system seems to run flawlessly now
and I can actually run Chrome and Firefox simultaneously for long
periods of time.

My strong gut feeling was there has been something really wrong, at
least with some hardware and user profiles.

I am only at 14 days uptime at this point, so I'll know more in a month
or two, but I think throwing some hardware at it, solved my personal
situation.
