Public bug reported:
I use ubuntu 9.10 with 2.6.31-20-generic for navigating my sailboat with
Opencpn and a Garmin GPS (60CSX). Garmins latest driver use
/proc/bus/usb/ to mount. I use these commands to be able to read GPS
data.
gksudo modprobe garmin_gps
sudo mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb/
sudo gpsd /dev/ttyUSB0
This command is the trouble: "sudo mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb/" .
I get the error "mount: mount point /proc/bus/usb". When I try go to to
/proc/bus/usb with nautilus I can't even see the folder. Even with root
rights. I can't create a new folder either. When I go back to
2.6.31-19-generic I can see the folder (mount point) clearly and is able
to read my GPS data.
I know this is the old way of using USB but a lot of drivers still
has'nt developed yet. Not even on products still in sale. So It would be
appreciated if you could allow backward compalibility some more. I have
used days to get my expensive GPS to mount another way but the driver
force me to use it the old way. It's also a little annoying to not be
able to control my PC when I can't see the folders on it. Reminds me the
old windows days.
** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
