You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I've recently found some tutorials for converting Live CDs to Live USB
or frugal hard disk installs, so I previously had Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 6
installed on both my USB flash drive and one of my logical hard disk
partitions.
I have now tried the same thing with the 9.04 beta for Kubuntu, however the hard disk frugal install couldn't make it to the boot menu, instead the console continuously outputs these two lines:
"starting kjournald.."
"EXT3-FS mounted ordered filesystem"
The USB flash drive install gets to the language menu, but when I select
"Try kubuntu without installing", it instead goes to the back-and-forth
loading bar and halts there. From the sound my hard drive is making, it
is the same behavior, as though it's continuously trying to mount a
local filesystem.
The flash drive has syslinux installed, and the 'install' is just the
liveCD files copied via "sudo cp -r" onto the device's root, with
isolinux and isolinux/isolinux.cfg moved to syslinux and
syslinux/syslinux.cfg.
The hard drive partition does not use its own boot procedure, instead
the GRUB of my main Ubuntu 8.10 system loads the kernel and ramdisk from
the casper directory.
As I said, this setup worked fine with the 9.04 Alpha 6, so I doubt it's any part of the rather strange boot setup I'm using.
It appears that the USB version is trying to mount one of my hard drive partitions. If there's a workaround to just say "don't mount any hard drives" that would be great.
