Public bug reported:

With certain PDFs printing them fail with a "/usr/lib/cups/filter
/foomatic-rip failed" message. This accounts for a small fraction of
the PDFs printed on this system. The majority of printouts, including
PDFs, function perfectly.

When I have been able to get samples, the failing PDFs all display fine
in evince.

The client machines are 32bit ubuntu 9.10 (updated frequently), printing
to 32bit ubuntu server 9.10 via cups (also updated frequently), which in
turn prints to an HP laserjet 2300.

Clients:
Linux tc4 2.6.31-20-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 09:05:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 2.6.31-20.57-generic

Server:
Linux tcserver 2.6.31-20-generic-pae #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 10:23:59 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 2.6.31-20.57-generic-pae
