I had the same problem on Dell XPS M1330 using Karmic. Anyway I solved
installing:

linux-backports-modules-XXXXXX-generic
linux-backports-modules-karmic
linux-backports-modules-karmic-generic

relative at your kernel version currently used (from shell type "uname
-a" to detect it)
