[Bug 541863] [NEW] Latest update- kernel not reloading

Ran update manager using all recommendations-can't restart- Linux/Ubuntu 9.10 ( within Windows 64 bit version). Says reload kernel.
Am simple Windows user, trying to convert. Second time problem with updates- its a pain having to reload system and all settings/data.
Surely this update has failed for everyone? am 19/3/10
