I have this problem since upgrading to 9.10 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p. 
I did not have this problem on any other release prior to that. I'm experiencing sudden shutdowns and reboots. Sometimes after such a shutdown i have to take out the power cable AND battery for a few seconds in order for the laptop to start up again. 
This was never an issue in 5 years I've been using ubuntu. 
As well, although the syslog reports as pasted below, this happens when there's no real load, and the laptop doesn't feel as if its any hotter than usual. Could it be a problem with the reading of the sensor?
