My experiences with broken packages with problem files (mostly from back
when I was still running Libranet 2.x and Debian Unstable) has been
unhelpful here.  I'm pasting this here largely for future reference of
developers and others running into this problem, as I hope to somehow
solve this long before anyone replies here, even if it's the
unsatisfying solution of backing out of installing the package that
leaves me with my original problem unsolved.
