Postscript to #258.
I have just read #252.  There is a good example.  No fix can be generated for the what until the who is dealt with.  No matter what you do.  Not only is it affecting Karmic, but is also as I see appearing in Lucid Lynx.  A brand new OS not yet in final release.  Not only that I am aware of other CMOS/MBR bugs being generated to cause OS problems.
