I have the same problem on my Dell XPS 1530 with Intel 3945 LAN.

This seems to be a problem with latest kernels and i hope it gets fixed
soon.

I have tried fresh installs from Ubuntu 9.10, Mandriva 2010, openSuse
11.2, Fedora 12. All of the distributions have it in their fresh
installs.

I only recently decided to do a fresh  install, before that i had Ubuntu
8.10 upgraded to 9.04 and to 9.10. I have never noticed this problem
before. It started appearing in the fresh install of 9.10.
