i just upgraded a computer to lucid, during installation there was some
information about some installations failed including some nvidia
driver..

after reboot, ubuntu was unable to repair the problem with its repair mode, which it automatically offered..
i selected "reconfigure x" and since then i have no terminals and no x either.

boot runs through up to the pulsing drums of the startsound of gnome,
but no display.

i cant access any other terminals with alt+ctrl+f1  through f8

only chance is to get me an ubuntu lucid beta cd from somewhere now and
chroot into this mess...

is this similar to your problem?
during boot i see a blinking cursor on the top left, for about 30seconds, then something about smbus and then after a while a blank screen with the ubuntu start sound...

nothing visible
