on my machine this can be reproduced with the following steps:
1) reboot the machine
2) get ip address via dhcp
3) mount nfs file system (server on the same lan)
4) run mplayer on a file on the nfs filesystem

after a certain period the network card stops putting packets on the
wire and everything freezes up for a few seconds. Crash report is
generated then everything fixes itself.
