Public bug reported:
On Karmic, (including linux-image-2.6.31-20-server), HP logical drives
in a SCSI-attached MSA20 enclosure are inaccessible due to a problem
with the cciss driver version included in the 2.6.31 kernels. Behavior
was correct and the same disk devices accessible on Jaunty. Error as
seen in dmesg output is:
Problem:
Linux thabo 2.6.31-20-server #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 09:59:59 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[ 1.566071] cciss/c0d1:
[ 1.602732] unknown partition table
[ 1.604029] cciss0: cmd 0x25 check condition, sense key = 0x05
[ 1.604090] cciss: read capacity failed
[ 1.604264] heads=0, sectors=2, cylinders=13056
Expected/correct:
Linux thabo 2.6.28-11-server #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 02:45:36 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[ 2.579088] cciss/c0d1: unknown partition table
[ 2.589788] blocks= 2930163792 block_size= 512
[ 2.590135] heads=255, sectors=32, cylinders=359089
The fix for this problem is included in a patch identified by "cciss:
Preserve all 8 bytes of LUN ID for logical drives." which is in
2.6.34-rc1 (and I've verified that kernel version sees the storage
devices correctly on the same servers).
