Public bug reported:
Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages (Kubunu)
SUMMARY
I was unable to transfer digital video content from my SONY digital video
camera to my Linux PC.
NOTE: The resolution to this problem for me was to change the permissions on
the /dev/raw1394 file from
crw-rw---- 1 root root 171, 0 2010-03-27 07:16 /dev/raw1394
to
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 171, 0 2010-03-27 07:16 /dev/raw1394
However, this should NOT be the case -- too obtuse and complex for newbie Linux
users to figure out. Distribution should allow for configuration of this
through some OTHER MEANS!!!
ENVIRONMENT
Linux callisto 2.6.31-20-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 12 05:23:09 UTC 2010

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 9.10

ACTUAL RESULT
When I connect my video camera to the firewire port and attempt to use dvgrab or
Kino, I get an error stating that the camera cannot be found.
EXPECTED RESULT
When I connect my video camera to the firewire port, I should see some sort of
notification stating that my video camera has been successfully connected to the
computer. If it cannot find my camera, the notification should provide me with
the details as to why the camera cannot be found.
