[Bug 551555] Re: 3g modem USB not recognised when first inserted

Normally the CD should be automatically ejected on insertion exposing
the modem USB devices. This should occur during udev processing via
usb-modeswitch, with final configuration via modemmanager. It sounds
like modemmanager is present as you could configure the device after
manually ejecting the CD device. I have recently experienced a system
which due to an older apt bug did not have usb-modeswitch installed
automatically. Could we find out which of usb-modeswitch and
modemmanager are installed and which versions, the command below should
do the trick, if you could attach that to this bug:

    dpkg -l usb-modeswitch usb-modeswitch-data modemmanager

This device is an E620, which appears to be supported by usb-modeswitch:

idVendor 0x12d1 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
  idProduct 0x1001 E620 USB Modem

If usb-modeswitch and modemmanager are both installed we would want to
get an lsusb -nnvv _before_ the device is ejected, ie. when its still
pretending to just be a CDROM as the USB ids change during the
conversion from 'disk' to 'modem' and I think we are seeing the after in
the attached file. Thanks.
