Please, do the investigation, and then open a new bug!!!

Your issue with dd clones is completely different from kwstas tsob's
problem in #256 which had to do with source file fragmentation because
of bittorrent.

You see?   Both are performance problems, and both are complete
different!!

And discussing them in the same bug report in Launchpad is completely
unproductive!!!

So the issue is not writing off performance problems; just this specific
Launchpad bug, which is clearly degenerated beyond any hope of help.
(It doesn't help that launchpad is very slow when there are over 80
comments in the bug report.)

If you want to have any hope of anyone paying attention, OPEN A NEW BUG.
