Update: On starting my machine (with the new mainline kernel) today, the
hard drive is recognized, but only operates at USB 2.0 speeds. System
log reads:

I see nothing about it switching back to OHCI (which would explain why
I'm only getting speeds of a USB 2.0 disk)...
