Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.32-21-generic

Hello.

After a clean install of Kubuntu 10.04 I used to experience random crashes of KDE - KDE would return to login screen.
Thanks to benkay86 dude from kubuntu IRC channel it turned out the 8139 kernel driver was guilty.

Here's my card:
02:03.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Device 254c
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 23
        I/O ports at de00 [size=256]
        Memory at fddff000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: 8139too
        Kernel modules: epl, 8139too, 8139cp

According to his advice I blacklisted these drivers:

#blacklist 8139too
#blacklist 8139cp

and there were no crashes at all.
The solution or workaround was installing the latest kernel of Karmic: 2.6.31-20-generic (because I used to use it in my Kubuntu Karmic) and it works so far.

best regards,
Wojtek Ryrych
I know this is only a temporary solution and I'd like in future use newer kernel.
