Dear Jeremy,
I have managed to install 10.04, but SUSPEND still hangs and I have to
do a hard reboot. I haven't yet tried all tricks I tried for 9.10,
though.
After the previous attempt with the ISO cd that I burned, I thought my rEFIt wasn't up to date. The apple firmware (efi?) is uptodate and I installed rEFIt 0.14 (overwritting 0.13). Then I burned the ISO dvd (what's the difference with the cd?), but also then I couldn't boot from that either! It does show up in the menu of rEFIt.
Then I rebooted 9.10, that recognized the dvd as a upgrade source and proposed to upgrade. That worked finally! Now I have working 10.04 system, but suspend still blanks the screen and it hangs the system.
The kernel is 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
