Problem found and solved. The internal SSD on my netbook has died, so I
boot from a tiny USB flash drive. In order to install, I booted off the
netbook live USB image on one USB flash drive and installed onto the
tiny USB flash drive.

During installation, the destination USB flash drive was given /dev/sdc.
I told the partitioner to partition /dev/sdc, and to mount /dev/sdc1 as
/, and there is an appropriate entry in /etc/fstab.

The system boots up correctly. The boot drive is automatically given
/dev/sda and seems to be mounted automatically.

The USB SD card reader is given /dev/sdb.

When plugging in another USB flash drive, it is given /dev/sdc. However,
it cannot be mounted because of the entry in /etc/fstab trying to make
it mount as /.

When I removed the entry for /dev/sdc1 in /etc/fstab, the system works
as expected.

How do I mark a bug as 'No error'?
