original kernel: Linux tdlap6 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr
16 08:09:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
No screen brightness adjustment possible. Workaround: "acpi=ht"
Tested upstream kernel
linux-image-2.6.34-020634rc6-generic_2.6.34-020634rc6_amd64
Screen boots to 100% brightness, even if set to minimum during BIOS post
* with no boot options, hot keys activate screen brightness applet.
But screen brightness does not actually change
* with "acpi_backlight=vendor" option, screen brightness applet does
not show up, actual screen brightness does not change
Tested linux-image-2.6.32-02063209-generic_2.6.32-02063209_amd64.deb
* screen brightness can be adjusted. Applet doesn't show. But fan
running at highspeed and only one processor showing on my i5 !#!?!
* system booted with device not found, then disk repair

Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.
