Tried removing /lib/firmware/agere_sta_fw.bin per comment #86.

It did not resolve the issue.

I did notice this:

[   46.017170] orinoco_cs 2.0: IEEE standard IBSS ad-hoc mode

and these kind of messages:

So there's definitely a difference but it doesn't connect!
