[Bug 577303] [NEW] Moniter goes blank but is still active - periodic occurrence

Public bug reported:

I am running a clean install of Ubuntu Lucid. Periodically my screen
suddenly goes blank. The monitor is still on (not sleeping). It is
impossible (for me) to get the monitor to respond. Thanks for any help
in advance.
