[Bug 577897] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.04 hangs at shutdown but not at restart

Public bug reported:

On my laptop ACER 5536, with a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 (I have also on the same laptop, ubuntu 9.04 and windows vista on some other patitions), 
I cannot shutdown my system : it hangs just before power-off : I have to force the power-off by pressing 5 seconds the ON/OFF button.
During the shutdown, if I press F1, I can see normal shutdown messages (no special errors), the latest messages displayed is :
"will now halt" ... but the laptop is not powered-off.
If I removes "quiet splash" kernel option at boot, it does not help : The system system still hangs at shutdown.

If I choose "restart" instead of "shutdown" : the system succeded to
restart : it does not hang.

So it seems that ubuntu does not know how to tell an acer laptop to
power-off
