[Bug 577932] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop-i386 won't install

Public bug reported:

Host: HP-Compaq dc5100, Clean 80GB SATA HDD (Low-level formatted).
Hardware RAID disabled.

Installation reaches Stage 4, Partition Table screen, but no partitions are shown and all command buttons except 'Quit' & 'Finish' are disabled.
When 'Finish' is selected, the error message 'No root system is defined - Please correct this from the partitioning menu', but no partitioning menu has been offered. The fault occurs both during a direct install and via the live CD environment. Preformatting the HDD with linux partitions produces the same result. The HDD checks out o.k. with low level analysis tools.

It is as if the installer cannot 'see' the SATA drive.
