Laurent, I had exactly the same problem, and I solved it by changing the video driver (under restricted drivers). 
I selected the default Nvidia drivers instead of a new "experimental" version that Lucid installed. When I restarted the computer, I could see my webcam picture :)

(now i'm not at home, so I don't know exactly which version of the
nvidia driver I'm using, but I can post it later if you need it)
