Confirmed on HP dv4i

uname -a
Linux calin-laptop 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Also echo -n 3 > /proc/acpi/fan/FAN*/state doesnt stop the fans.

The option "Fan always on" is disabled from BIOS.
