[Bug 575221] [NEW] No login prompt/screen after suspend (backlight on and mouse pointer visible)

After suspend I get a blank (black) screen with backlight on. No login
screen prompt appears, however, the mouse pointer is visible and can be
moved around. This problem started occurring this morning on a fresh
Lucid install. I also had the same problem on the same computer on a
previous Karmic install. The problem only occurs sporadically, typically
every 5-10 suspend events.

At this point the only way to get out of this state is to do a hard
reset. Doing a RSEIUB reset does not work, neither changing to another
virtual terminal.

I have a Lenovo T61 laptop.

I use compiz and often attach an external screen at work using

xrandr --output VGA1 --primary; xrandr --output VGA1 --auto --pos 0x0
--output LVDS1 --auto --left-of VGA1

However I never resume from suspend with the external screen attached.
I've been wondering if perhaps after suspend the system is confused
about the screen size, and perhaps presents the login screen on the
screen area outside the laptop screen? Jut a speculation.
