Public bug reported:

Tried upgrading from Kubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 using install disc.
Installation freezes after the Kubuntu startup/splash screen. Then tried
simply performing the upgrade online by first upgrading to 9.10. No
problem with that upgrade. Upon completion of upgrade to 9.10, I
immediately ran KPackageKit to upgrade to 10.04. That upgrade also went
smoothly, but booting with 2.6.32-22-generic kernel fails at some point.
Startup/splash screen displays and then goes blank and everything hangs,
as if KDM can't get started or something. The system WILL boot with
2.6.31-21-generic kernel, though there is a boatload of verbose output I
don't know how to capture, though one was related to mounting devices
(perhaps it was referring to my old 2wire Wireless PC card?) and another
was in reference to not being able to find /etc/apparamor/initramfs .
Also lots of verbose output on shutting down 2.6.32-22-generic. I'm
still learning this stuff, so I'm guessing that some of this may be due
to "quiet" not being in the parameters for booting, the earlier kernel.

I am going to look at the differences between the boot commands in my
menu.lst to see what differences there are, which could be causing
2.6.32-22-generic to fail the boot. I'll also see what I can do to get
it to generate some output so I know where it's failing.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
